On 17th March 2011 we went on a four hour journey to Llandudno in North Wales. It was time to celebrate the achievements of Youth Work in Wales. It was a chance to see all the amazing work of young people, youth workers and youth projects in our great nation.

The Youth Work in Excellence Awards are organised by the Welsh Assembly Government to show the achievements and recognise the amazing work of the youth services and youth project across the country.

Did you know there are at least 20,000 youth workers in Wales?

Well the event was in a nice little hotel by the sea and we had the great pleasure of watching Tom Richards (2011 X Factor contestant) perform and have his heart pulled out (not literally) by Mr Phormula (a fab beat boxer).

There were so many amazing finalists who give youth work a good name.

Cardiff had a few entries and this year saw Taela-Mae Hindle who works for 'Truth About Youth' from the organisation Platform 51 take this years trophy. Taela's work engages young people to work together and challenge the negative perceptions young people come across by the wider society by the form of 'Truth Challenges'.

Taela-Mae faced strong competition and each of them deserved to win but as with all awards there had to be one winner.

Well done Taela!
