Cardiff City have gone to the top of the Championship table after they beat Birmingham City 2-1 on a rain-drenched Tuesday night. City have made their best start to a season for 66 years by winning their first five home games in a row.

The Bluebirds made one change from the starting line up that beat Blackpool with Joe Mason replacing the injured Tommy Smith. Cardiff City took the lead in the 39th minute with Craig Bellamy scored after a Peter Whittingham cross (he does what he wants) found the captain Mark Hudson, who neatly crossed the ball for Bellamy to score.

Birmingham City’s Leroy Lita, on loan from Swansea City (boo) equalised after 54 minutes, putting the final touch to Wade Elliot's cross from close range.

Yet it was Hudson who scored the winning goal in the 57th minute. Although the visitors tried to get the equalising goal, Cardiff comfortably held on for the win.

Cardiff City’s next game is away to Ipswich Town on Saturday (6th October 2012).
