We Are Cardiff City And We're Going To Wembley
Cardiff City booked a place in the League Cup Final after overcoming Crystal Palace.
City trailed 1 - 0 from the first leg of their semi-final battle with Palace and took the lead in the second leg with an own goal by Palace's Anthony Gardener, who was their hero in the first leg.
Peter Whittingham then tested Palace's Julian Speroni with a stinging drive before Kenny Miller missed a chance when Aron Gunnarsson passed it in to the Scottish striker. Miller tried ion vain to double Cardiff's 1- 0 lead before the half time whistle blew.
It wasn't all City though as Palace's Wilfried Zaha impressed his peers and manager Dougie Freedman with his brilliant performance as he kept on teasing Cardiff's Darcy Blake. Yet Crystal Palace's task became a lot harder when Paddy McCarthy was sent off over his double booking with 13 minutes to go to the 90 minute whistle.
As the final whistle blew, Cardiff looked the more ambitious side and looked prepared for extra time.
Cardiff could've sealed it in the second half of extra time as super sub Filip Kiss and Gunnarsson hit the bar.
The game ended 1 - 0 to City, which made it 1-1 on aggregate and finally went through 3 - 1 on penalties, with Cardiff Goalkeeper Tom Heaton the hero of penalty shoot-out and the hero of the match.
Cardiff City will face Liverpool at Wembley on Sunday 26th February 2012.
The Bluebirds last appearance at Wembley in a cup competition was their FA Cup Final battle with Portsmouth in 2008, which ended with a 1 - 0 defeat. This will be Cardiff's first appearance at Wembley since the 2010 Championship playoff against Blackpool. Here's hoping it's third time lucky!
