What is ICS?

ICS (International Citizen Service) is a development programme which brings together 18 to 25-year-olds from all backgrounds to fight poverty in overseas and UK communities.

Who Can Take Part?

ICS is open to 18 to 25-year-olds regardless of income, qualifications, disability and work history.

You don’t need cash or qualifications to take part, just the drive and ambition to make a difference in your world.

Where Can I Go?

You’ll get the chance to work in partnership with other young people on development projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

With eight respected development organisations offering placements in 26 countries ICS leads the way in international volunteering opportunities for young people.

ICS offers opportunities like no other to work with local volunteers on meaningful and sustainable development projects. You’ll also gain valuable and transferable skills that’ll give you the extra edge in whatever you choose to do next.

What Can I Do?

ICS is about working with local people to meet local needs. This means you'll be using your skills and creativity to find solutions to problems that are right there in front of you. It's certainly a challenge but your partners on the ground will be on hand to help. You'll learn from each other, try things out and find a way.

What's Included?

  • Flights and visa
  • Medication and vaccines
  • Travel and medical insurance
  • Food and accommodation
  • A minimal allowance while overseas
  • Training, support and guidance at every stage

“I would definitely recommend ICS. It is one of the most challenging things you will ever do, but also one of the most exciting.”

- Gwenno Edwards, ICS volunteer, 22 from Caernarfon, Gwynedd.
