"We were all children once. And we all share the desire for the well-being of our children, which has always been and will continue to be the most universally cherished aspiration of humankind." - Report of the UN Secretary-General (2001)

Today is Universal Children’s Day, established by the United Nations in 1954 to celebrate children and their rights.

20 November is a significant date because on this day the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and signed the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.

Wales is the first country in the UK, and one of only a few countries in the world, to enshrine the UNCRC into domestic law with the Rights of Children and Young Persons (Wales) Measure 2011.

To celebrate the Welsh Government has a number of activities taking place today, including; the launch of  the updated www.uncrcletsgetitright.co.uk website, which provides both informal and formal resources for professionals and children and young people.

There is also the new universal UNCRC ten minute online trainingthe new e-learning package is designed to provide an introduction to the UNCRC and helps those who work with children and young people to learn more about their rights.
