Time To Get FUNC-y
Funky Dragon is giving the children and young people of Wales the chance to let the United Nations (UN) know how children’s rights are being implemented by government. The FUNC (Funky’s United Nations Challenge) survey is now available online and is part of the current round of reporting to the United Nations CRC Committee on the Rights of the Child. It is their job to tell the UK and Welsh governments how they can improve the way they are carrying out their obligations under the UNCRC.
This is the best opportunity for children to let the government of Wales and the UK know what they think about what’s happening in their lives. It is a comprehensive survey covering eight subject areas: Health, Education, Knowledge of the UNCRC, Information, Right to meet/safe places to play, Participation, Discrimination, Safety and protection from harm.
The survey has been devised by the FUNC steering group as part of a process of education and facilitation. The group members have received intensive training in research techniques and have devised the survey along with other methods such as focus groups and interviews.
As the project progresses they will collect and evaluate the data, write the report and eventually, present it to the United Nations in Geneva. The last time Funky Dragon members presented their report to the CRC they were asked back to advise the United Nations on how to take evidence from children.
The whole reporting process is guided by the steering group, making it as close as possible, what the children and young people of Wales want to tell the UN about their country.
The findings of this survey will have a real impact on how the Government of Wales plans and delivers laws. To do the survey click here (https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/FUNC2012).
