This Is Technology
On Tuesday 25 November, theSprout visited Llanrumney High School, where Year 11 were taking part in a Super Learning Day.?
We thought we'd ask some of them their opinions on technology. Here's what they had to say:
"Children as young as five are using mobile phones these days. This is quite disturbing when thinking about what communication used to be like, whereas now it is via phones and computers. We need to get back to speaking face-to-face as this shows more respect towards others". -- Carys Satton
"If you spend too much time on the phone, microwaves could damage your brain cells. Also there are a lot of thieves that will harm people just to get their possessions. Mobile phones can also cause bullying. If a certain child hasn't got the latest phone then others who are more advantaged could use that to bully them". -- Kirsty
"Technology can save lives (medicine, transplants) and can create entertainment (games consoles, TVs), but many people think that the world is a worse place because of technology (wars are created over oil). I think it has brought the world closer. With websites like Facebook you can get in touch with lost friends and family. I think the Internet is the most important piece of technology ever made". -- Rory Kear-Smith
"Technology affects our lives in many different ways. Computers help you do a lot of things such as help you communicate with your friends through email and instant messaging. Also, computers help you to research for your coursework for school, from different sites throughout the Internet". -- Melissa Johanson
"How many of?us use mobile phones? Or laptops? Computers? How many of?us listen to iPods / MP3 players? Technology is getting better, but is it worth the money or effort? My views are that we depend on technolgy too much and though I don't think it's impossible for us not to survive without it, it would be a very difficult task". -- Elizabeth Williams
"Without computers, scientists would have to sort out all their data and take twice as long. Without mobile phones, students could be involved in an accident but wouldn't have the chance to tell anyone. Life today wouldn't be the same without technology. Without cars we'd have to walk everywhere. Technology has made our lives a lot easier". -- Jenade (Nade08)
"Ever since I used my first piece of technology (I can't remember what it was), it has been very useful to me. Without it, I wouldn't be able to watch TV or play my games console. I wouldn't even be able to get in touch with my friends at home. Nearly everthing in my home is a piece of technology. I use either my phone or my PC to get in touch with my friends and I have?two or?three games consoles. Without them, I would be very bored indeed". -- Matthew Osborne
"It affects all our lives because everything we do is related to technology.?I think it's great. Other people - like for example my mate, Scannell - don't like technology. It does affect us in a big way, and it helps our economy to develop and makes our world a better place". -- Matthew Riella
"Technology affects my life because I use it to stay in touch with my friends and make new ones. Without it, I wouldn't be able to have my favourite foods that I like so much, because they need to be cooked using electrical appliances. Without technology, I wouldn't be able to know half of my friends". -- Jacob Court
"Technology, where art thou, technology? Alas,?I have waited a month, a year for thyne prompt return. You suck". -- Smith Smithers
