The Presumptions Of Others

  • Warning!

This last weekend, I was told about people's misconception of who I am.

I have to admit, it amused me a bit but then intrigued and concerned me, as it is incredibly easy to seem like someone else.

A few people thought I was an "emo" judging by my poems which is understandable.

I bet those people on here that have met me will now strongly disagree about this view of me. I feel obligated to say that I am probably one of the happiest people you'll meet, I smile pretty much constantly and most things make me laugh or amuse me.

Anyway, back to the serious things, these misconceptions made me realise how easy it could be for older people to pretend to be younger and someone completely harmless. I have only written about twelve articles and within me writing about 6/7 things people already had an image of what I looked like.

I don't want to scare people at all because this is quite rare and its highly unlikely to happen to you, nonetheless I think people should be made more aware that there are people like this out there in the world.

Last year there were around 45,000 people on the UK's sex offenders register. Compared to the total population this isn't much at all, a percent maybe or less but this is still scary, don't you think? [*Sub-Ed whips out Casio calculator watch* it's 0.07%].

It's an odd thing, we can't judge people by what they look like and it is impossible to know what anyone's thinking. Think about what's happened in parts of the Catholic Church (this isn't a rant about them this is just an example), they are trusted by millions and put on a pedestal of authority by their millions of followers yet there were paedophiles working within the ranks of the Church.

Please note, this isn't meant to scare people or make people think others could be, its actually the opposite. I think people shouldn't presume they know enough about another person to make a judgement like this.

I know this was only based upon people thinking I looked and dressed differently to how I actually look but I think it's raised some pretty big issues.

Thanks, it just got me thinking and perhaps over-thinking about it

I never thought you were an emo! But then, I don't really think of internet people as people until I've met them... Well, I don't mean I don't think they're people, I mean I see the articles, not the people behind them :D

Got something to say?
