The Phantom Of The Opera - Bridgend Youth Theatre!
After months of rehearsing/line learning/running scenes in the shower, the time has come for the team at Bridgend Youth Theatre and I to put down our scripts and humbly invite one and all to our forthcoming production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece; The Phantom Of The Opera!
Now I'm sure that most of you, much like Les Miserables in September (of which several of the cast also appeared!), this show requires no introduction.
However, for those of you who have never before ventured into the depths of The Opera Populaire before, please allow me a moment of your time to explain why you should take your seat!
Based on Gaston Leroux's iconic novel Le Fantome de l'Opera, Lloyd Webber's musical adaptation sees Christine Daae; a talented soprano take centre stage after being tutored to excellence by a strange and omnipresent 'Angel of Music' sent by her dead father.
After a serious of strange occurrences cause diva and prima donna La Carlotta to withdraw from her role, Christine is called upon by new managers Monsieurs Andre and Fermin to be her replacement to wondrous success and praise.
But when Christine's childhood sweetheart Raoul; Vicomte de Chagny, the new patron of the Opera House, is brought back into her life much to the vehement displeasure of 'The Angel', Christine is forced to make a choice.
What exactly is going on at The Opera Populaire? How much do the enigmatic ballet mistress Madame Giry and her daughter Meg have to do with it? Who will Christine choose?
Angel or Father? Friend or Phantom?
Only one thing is certain:
The Phantom Of The Opera is here.
