The Pain Of A Lost Child: Chapter Fifteen

She walked back home with silent tears in her eyes. Katayer had told her that while she had been here with Rob, her family on her home planet had been killed by an enemy who was still out there waiting for her.

All that was left of her family was one photo of them all which she held in her hands now. Annie’s blood sister Genna, who had married Katayer had died in childbirth, but the saddest thing was that their baby had died shortly afterwards. Annie was all Katayer had left of a family. She promised to go and see him and he promised to return soon. She told him that when her baby was born and if he wanted to, he could be the godfather. He smiled and nodded his agreement as if he had expected no less.

Now she was walking back home alone and it began to rain as she unconsciously used her powers to make it rain. She cried to herself but then she came to a sudden stop as she heard a twig snap behind her. She slowly turned and saw it was only Rob.

“Hey Rob are you OK?” she asked him.

“Yeah I’m fine Annie, I was just coming to find you cos it started to tip down with rain and I knew you didn’t have a coat. Although you don’t look wet even though it’s pouring down?” he said with a quizzing look.

“Oh yeah well you know. Come here Rob and let’s get home cos you’ll catch your death.” she smiled and put her arm out so he could come to her.

He walked over to her but didn’t take her arm. He wore a small smile that let her know that deep within he was sad.

“What’s wrong Rob? And don’t say nothing cos I can feel your misery, so share it.”

Rob looked straight at her and then sighed “OK, OK Annie you got me, yes I’m sad, I just wanna know so tell me the truth, do you love him?” Annie was totally confused now and just stared at him as if he had asked the stupidest question, “Don’t look at me like that Annie, I know that you feel deeply about him so just say it OK? I mean how am I gonna stop you from going with him, even I can’t stop you! Even for our baby.”

“Rob! What the hell has got into you! I would never leave you, never do you hear me? Now for Christ's sake yes I do love Katayer but not the way that you think. I love him as my brother and as my close friend, God he married my sister and I’ve just found out that my family has been mercilessly slaughtered by the same people who are now after me, while I’ve been here falling in love and making babies with you. Christ Rob my only family now is you and Katayer. I’m his only family as my sister died in childbirth and their baby died quite soon after,” tears were flowing down her cheeks and she could feel her throat closing as a sob came out “N-now if you don’t mind I think I might g-go and s-stop with my friend for tonight cos we both need some s-space I think, cos y-you obviously th-think d-differently a-and if you want a div-divorce then-” Annie was overcome by her misery and fell to her knees sobbing and crying her heart out like a shattered fairy.

Rob crouched down in front of her and cupped her face with both hands wiping the tears from her cheeks with the pads of his thumbs he whispered “No Annie, I don’t want a divorce and I won’t let you leave me, not like this. We need to be together now to help each other! I’m sorry for getting the wrong idea but you know me, I always add two and two and get six when I should get four.”

He swung her up into his arms and took her into the house and once they were both dry they went to bed. They held each other close, never wanting to let the other go. They kissed each other and spoke of everything but then their passion and need of each other took over and kisses became too little, not enough.
