The Pain Of A Lost Child: Chapter Six

They didn’t awaken until three o’clock the next afternoon because all night they had made sweet passionate love in celebration of their engagement.

Rob felt something nudge his hand which was splayed over Annie’s stomach, so he moved and leaned over to see if Annie was awake but she was still deep in slumber so he waited for a short time just watching for that small movement below his hand, 'there it is, my baby’s already moving in his mommy!' thought Rob. “Hey in there, you should not be moving, your mommy and daddy are trying to sleep,” he whispered to his and Annie’s baby, and slowly moved his hand over her belly to try and calm their child.

But in doing so he had roused Annie’s attention who stretched out and turned her face up to his “Who were you talking to Honey?” she asked him and he went warm inside from the loving name she used.

“It’s OK Annie I was just talking to the baby, he woke me up again.”

“A boy huh? And here I had my heart set on a girl.”

“Actually I don’t really mind, if we have a girl or boy or both as long as you’re both safely in my arms at the end of the day.”

“Oh Honey why’d you have to say that? I mean I’m emotional as it is and now you g-got m-me crying...”

Rob pulled Annie up tight against him and she buried her face in his chest.

“I’m sorry Annie but that’s how I feel and I thought you’d like to know.”

“Oh that’s... OK Rob and I-I hope we’re in your arms too cos I love you, you know that don’t you?”

“Yes Annie I do,” Rob said and rubbed his face in her hair kissing her head “and I love you too Annie. And I hope you never forget.”

“Oh I won’t Rob, I won’t,” Annie said as she felt part of his body respond to hers. She looked up into his eyes and saw the deepness of his need and so when she pressed her lower body to his he needed no further invitation in resuming their lovemaking.

“So you’re sure you’ll be OK on your own for a while then Annie?” Rob asked her as she sipped on her morning tea.

“Yes Rob, now quit worrying cos I’ll be fine OK?”

“OK, OK Annie I just... I want you to take care OK? Make sure you get some rest,” he smiled a secret smile when he said “cos I know we don’t really sleep at night!” then he winked just before he left for work.

“Hey Rob how are you two doing?” his sister asked as he finished cashing up for the end of the day.

“We’re doing fine thanks sis,” he said and then smiled to himself remembering what was waiting for him when he got back home.

“So how long she got left before the baby’s born then?”

“She’s got a few days left, about a week to you.”

“Oh-” she didn’t manage to finish her conversation to her brother cos the phone rang and so she sprang up to answer it.

'Oh well baby looks like it’s just you and me for a while,' Annie thought as she rubbed her tight belly slowly 'so how about we get something to eat and we can listen to some music before we go back to bed for a nap hmm?' She felt the small movement of her babe and knew that was a nod of agreement. After a long sleep Annie awoke to a sharp stabbing pain in her lower stomach and she felt her baby move again. She winced at the pain and tried to ignore it but that was impossible as the pain was so intense and so she sat up and leaned back against the headboard of the bed, then brought her knees up to her chest and held herself tightly hoping the pain would cease. But it didn’t and she couldn’t stand it anymore so she used her mind and phoned the coffee shop.

“Hiya Annie what’s up?” it was Rob’s sister who answered.

“Um I-is r-Rob there please?” she asked.

“Um yeah, uh are you OK Annie?”

“Y-yeah I-I’m fine c-can you just tell Rob to c-come home as soon as, h-he can OK?”

“Yeah sure thing will do!” Kay said and then replaced the receiver.

“Hey Rob you better get home to your lady fast cos she don’t sound too good!” she quickly said to her brother.

“Why, what did Annie say to you? Is she OK?”

“She sounded like an injured animal and she was breathless so get going!”
