The Noisiest Street In Britain?
So, you think your street is noisy? All those cars and buses driving past... the occasional helicopter overhead? Try visiting Myrtle Avenue.
What is Myrtle Avenue?
Myrtle Avenue, at a glance, is just a normal street in the London Borough of Hounslow. Green leafy gardens, belonging to pleasant semi-detached houses. However, if you stayed around, even for five minutes, your opinion of serenity and peace would soon change. Myrtle Avenue is, in fact, located only 100 yards from the south runway of London's Heathrow Airport. With 1,280 flights arriving at and departing from the airport each day, it can get pretty hectic, especially during peak hours.
Spotters?
Yes. A fair few. Plane-spotters flock from all over the country and the world to experience the chance to get great photos and videos of aircraft as they make their final approach or take-off. (I am planning to head down there sometime between now and after we get back to school after May half term, to get some truly incredible shots and videos (I hope!).)
What about the residents?
Obviously, the residents knew their proximity to Heathrow when they first moved to the street, however, it still isn't the greatest when you are trying to relax with your family and suddenly a great roaring sound comes over head as a Boeing 777 or an A380 SuperJumbo pass over. To lower the noise rate for residents surrounding Heathrow, airlines are encouraged to lower their engine power as much as possible on approach to landing so that overall noise is lower. However, nothing can stop the noise completely, so until the industry comes up with noiseless planes (which is very unlikely to ever happen), the residents are just going to have to adapt to living with the noise.
If you like planes and are interested in getting some fantastic shots and videos of aircraft, Myrtle Avenue is the place for you. The best part is that it's only two and a half hours from Cardiff by car, so you can be there and back again in a day! Pop along down, it'll be an unforgettable experience!

I didn't realise how close it was! I am a keen planespotter myself and have only been to Cardiff airport and most recently, Bristol (on the weekend). But my friend has been numerous times and loves it! I wanted to go for my birthday (because we'd have to stay overnight) and it'd be expensive but now thanks for telling me and i'll tell my dad when I get home (he likes it too) :).

@Hazzanad Thats cool! enjoy yourself! I'm the only one in my family who likes planes, but my Dad has agreed to take me up between the easter holidays and may half-term. I am heading up there tonight (27th march) to stay overnight before flying out tommorow morning (28th March) to the states. using a Delta 767-300, first time on one and on Delta.
