The Man From Stratford
Shakespeare is alive, here in Cardiff, until tomorrow (Saturday 18th).
Performing for the first time to the public at the New Theatre, Simon Callow depicts the true character of a man that has brought so much to our literature and culture.
A simplistic one-man show, with only a few props, that demonstrates the power Shakespeare has with words. Reciting pieces from some of the most loved of Shakespeare’s plays; Callow was defiantly a crowd pleaser and has received a rush of positive comments from critics today.
According to The Times Callow was just made for Shakespeare: “Callow and Shakespeare: a brilliant combination.”
The Wilshire Gazette commented: “Callow delivers a sharp, warm and totally fascinating portrait”
Callow has previously performed similar productions of; The Importance Of Being Oscar, about Oscar Wilde, and The Mystery Of Charles Dickens, which he took to Broadway and Australia after its success in the West End.
The play was created by Jonathan Bate, a Shakespeare biographer and editor of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Shakespeare: The Complete Works. Together the pair have been commended for the “Simply breath-taking performance” (Liverpool Echo) last night.
Tickets available for students at a discounted price of five pounds.
