A 15-year-old from Cwmbran has ruined the negative stereotype of teenage boys by being a hero.

Leighton Griffiths rescued six children from a burning house (pictured) on Saturday.

The mother of the children said that he had saved their lives.

Leighton, who dived into the burning house after hearing the children screaming, said:

"No matter how scared you might be, you've got to be brave enough to go in and get them. They could have died and I could not have lived my life knowing I could have done something.

"I class everyone who gave a hand at the time a hero because we all played a part in it".

It is believed that the fire was ignited from an electrical fuse box at the home.

After climbing into the house, Leighton had to be taken into hospital with minor burns and a suspected broken rib.

The family - who have praised Leighton greatly - is the third one to survive a blaze in the property.
