Tales From The Residential
We have just returned home from our CLIC Planning Residential in Cardiff Bay.
CLIC has websites all across Wales, and the aim of our residentials is to bring young people from across the country together to meet, have fun, and make the CLIC network better.
This was a 'planning residential', and our aim was to plan exactly what you want to happen at the next big CLIC Residential in July, which you are all welcome to attend.
It was a great weekend, and the final workshop we held before going home was devoted to writing articles for CLIC about our residential. Below are some of the things our team had to say about the weekend:
My Weekend in Cardiff
by ant from Flintshire
On Friday we arrived at Cardiff for the CLIC Residential. The car drive took ages: it took five hours to get to Cardiff!
When we got here we had food and then we had workshops to get to know each other and all that stuff. We had a walk around Cardiff Bay and some people found it scary because it was a bank holiday weekend so lots of people were out, and we got kept awake all night because of "the zombie crew" (see below).
The next day we had a load of workshops and it was fun. Then we had a long speed boat ride we went out in the sea towards Barry and we got mega soaked because the waves were high. Then we went to the Red Dragon Centre for bowling and pizza and then we were kept awake all night again because of another zombie crew. AND IT WAS ALL FUN!
Epic Resi
by ANTLERD from Flintshire
On the Friday 28 May, four young people from Flintshire went on an epic journey to Cardiff Bay. We arrived at 6:30pm. We got shown to our rooms then went down for some dinner and drink.
We got to know a lot of new young peepz and new staff. Our favourite energiser was The Banana Song run by Ant and Alex. Then we went on this amazingly cool speed boat. It was mint but we got a mouth full of salt water we should've had chips with it.
Then we came back to the Urdd Centre and ate tea and got ready, then we went bowling it was class: there were four teams of six or more. Then we came back and went to bed and woke up today but we don't want to go home 'cause it's been amazing.
Eight Legged Freaks
by Alex from Neath Port Talbot
In Cardiff Urdd Centre, on Friday 28 May, there was a room. And the room number was 208: the most nicest room I have slept in on these residentials.
But it all happened in room 208 at about 4:15... a spider invasion! There was scratching and crawling all over my body! There were other mates in the room that experienced the same thing as me but unfortunately they had the better end of the stick and they didn't get bitten. I'm having thoughts of becoming a spider dissector just for the fun. They have bitten me that much they may as well have finished me off, the greedy buggers. Go to McDonald's or something and ask for a Big Mac meal.
The End
by Alex, still alive
I'm On A Boat
by Beth from Anglesey
On the 29th May, everybody that participated in the CLIC residential went on an adrenaline boat ride across Cardiff Bay as our daytime activity.
First of all, we all went down to Cardiff Bay jetty to prepare for the crazy journey ahead. We were given bright yellow skins and an inflatable life jacket, luckily it wasn't needed!
We headed down to the two fast boats that were raring to go! We were all instructed about the ins and outs of what we should and shouldn't do. Everybody held on tight as we were in for a bumpy ride.
As we headed for the lock, it started to pour down with rain, but this made the experience all the more enjoyable and wild! We were all quite fascinated by how the water in the lock disappeared before our eyes!
The crazy part of the journey started in an outburst of song, as we all were singing 'The Banana Song', which then lead on to the song 'I'm On A Boat!'.
The water sprayed in our face, which stung and felt like we were having needles poked in our face, very uncomfortable! Yet, we all still enjoyed!
The boat drivers, both women, were lovely and the other drivers on the boat opposite were just mad! Hanging off the sides and everything!
As we pulled back into the lock, we were greeted with a large yacht full of arrogant people! They were mocking us, and thought they were better than us. One of the ladies on board was taking pictures of us.
All in all, everyone extremely enjoyed the boat ride, and would do it again and again! Thanks CLIC for an amazing day!
Bowling (I Won Everything)
by A from Wrexham
On Saturday night everyone including me went bowling.
We took a slow walk down to the Red Dragon Centre. When we got there we had to wear the most stupidest trainers ever and then had to wait to get some bowling lanes. Finally we got some lanes and went in: everyone put their name on the screen and started to play bowling.
About a quarter of the way into the game me and Dan went to the counter to change my pound to ten pences. After I got my ten pences I went to the ten pence machine. I put all my ten pences in the machine until I had none left. Lots of prizes were nearly ready to fall. I kept looking at the machine and wishing. Dan told me that the machine just looks like that to trick you, but I knew better. Then I waited and lots of ten pences fell out of the machine so then me and Dan went to have a drink and some pizza. After the pizza we went back to the ten pence machine, I won a £5 note and lots more ten pences in a little purse then we went back to the game of bowling and it turned out that I won the bowling as well !!!!!!!!
Lack of Sleep
by Jess.. from Vale of Glamorgan
It's the end of the CLIC Planning Residential and everyone has had loads of fun but we are all so tired.
We got to Cardiff Bay on the Friday night and after the workshops decided it was time to go to bed, but somebody had given one of the younger people a camera *cough*Dan*cough* and I bet they regretted it about four in the morning. About fifteen zombie films later I think everyone just about managed to nod off. It turned out one of the girls had an obsession with zombies and wanted to make a zombie film. Everyone from the CLIC young people to the Urdd Centre staff featured in this film as a zombie. There was hours of banging, screams, groans, slow walking, and somehow laughter (I don't really remember watching a zombie movie with people laughing in it...).
The next day everybody acted like zombies naturally due to how tired they were, but at least we would get some sleep the Saturday night... so we thought. Instead, there were tables and cups being thrown about and even more zombies (leading to more lack of sleep), but luckily the CLIC staff told everyone to go to sleep at quarter to one. Everyone's still tired now and acting like a zombie because of it, but I suppose that shows just how much fun we had. I can't wait 'till the next residential, and hopefully we'll manage to get through this one without a zombie raid (: . (Great, I've just heard someone say they want to film the last scene of the film s: )
Resident Zombies and the Clash of Ninjas at Urdd
by emily16 from Vale of Glamorgan
If there's one thing for certain, it's that zombies (and ninjas for that matter) crave tea.
Well, brains as well, but mainly the tea; these are British ninjas and zombies, after all. This weekend, the latest blockbuster was shot and directed by our very own Emily, featuring zombies, people, people turning into zombies, zombies being shot with party poppers, low budgets and a very questionable maestro. This film is a wonderful cross between Zombieland, Crouching Tiger... and every Charlie Chaplin movie ever made. The cast are as follows:
Samantha from Cardiff (graveyard) - Zombie 1
Shaun from Pontypridd - Kevin
Emily from the Vale (Spielberg's closet)- Director
Paul from Anglesey (crypt) - Archibald Rockafella/Zombie 2
Elin from Cardiff - Maestro
Nicole from Cardiff - Extra
Amy from Wrexham Extra
Alex from Port Talbot Extra
With these amazingly talented eight young people from across Wales meeting in one hostel, a new best-selling, award-winning movie was bound to happen!
The basic plot of the film is that zombies eat people to music by Erik Satie, CPE Bach and Malcolm Arnold, including some improvisation by Amy, the Maestro's Apprentice. Archibald starts shooting at them but then gets bitten and dies, with terrible consequences...
And now the ninjas!!! At three in the morning, a few of the stars of the film, Shaun, Elin, Sam, Nicole and Paul, joined by Dan the Crazy Man, went to have a cup of tea in the "star trailer". But they ran out of milk. Needless to say, without milk, the tea failed and they didn't last long in the "trailer", before getting urges to start sneaking around the building without being seen by those in charge! This entailed finding a hidden hall, getting halfway downstairs then turning around and running back up again for fear of getting mistaken for thieves, and even hiding in a cupboard! The highlight of the evening, however, was undoubtedly staying up until four in the morning and getting up at eight the next day!
Nearly Home Time
by Ant from Flintshire
Well it's been a great weekend thanks to the staff and young people and it's nearly time to go home. :( I have had great fun doing the workshops and the activities, and I've learnt how to write an article for CLIC. I don't want to go home!
Coming Back Home
by A from Wrexham
Coming back home was fab. I was so tired and hungry.
Coming back from a fantastic weekend learning what CLIC is about, it was great. Meeting lots of new people was another experience for me and sure for a lot of other people, any how I had a great time.

Sounds like it was a brilliant weekend! Although, I'm sure that I hadn't read in the itinerary anything that went along the lines of: Sat, 29th, 12am-4am- make a Zombie movie! ;)

Where's child protection? That picture could end up anywhere, we are in a pandemic. I'm going to use the orginisations section of CLIC to find out Childlines number.. CLIC is so useful! I love CLIC!

Gesture,
Because I'm awesome I got my photos up the day we came back. You'll probably have to wait a few more days for the pics from the shiny expensive camera to appear. ;)
