Hello fellow Sprouters, and welcome to this SproutNews special, focusing on the recent Nepal Earthquakes. Here's the low-down.

An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter scale has hit eastern Nepal, two weeks after one measuring 7.8 devastated the country. Over 8000 people were killed in the first quake, with at least 37 people reported to have been killed in the second quake, so far.

Where?

Quake no.1's epicentre was located between Pokhara, and the countries capital, Kathmandu, in western Nepal. Quake no.2's epicentre was located near Mount Everest, near the village of Namche Bazaar. Both quakes took place in Nepal, with quake no.2 affecting Northern India as well.

When?

The first quake took place on Saturday 25th April 2015, whilst the second took place on Tuesday 12th May 2015. Both quakes took place within 2 weeks of each other, meaning that not much recovery could be made before the country was thrown in chaos again.

What are the consequences?

Many buildings around the country have collapsed, leaving people trapped inside, waiting for rescue. Everest climbing has been halted, as the first quake created an avalanche that destroyed part of base camp, and killed 17 people. People who were severely injured were evacuated, one of whom died later. April and May is the Everest Climbing season, so the earthquake has halted many summit attempts. Helicopters have been able to reach camps 1 and 2, which are higher altitude camps, and climbers have been evacuated one or two at a time, back down to base camp.

That's all for today folks, see you next time, on SproutNews!
