Splott Bridge Art Attack!

You know the Splott Road Rail Bridge, the one that goes over the train line and links Splott to Adamsdown?

It’s getting a brand new lick of paint.

Not any lick of paint though. Cardiff County Council has commissioned Harlech based artist Andrew Smith to renovate the bridge in a bold and dynamic fashion. Apparently “one of the most striking aspects of Andrew Smith’s paintings is the abstract irregular shapes of the large-scale canvases”. It should be a pretty interesting bridge.

And you can help Andrew out as he will be gathering ideas and inspiration from local residents.

Pop down to the Splott Library, STAR Centre, Splott Road on Saturday 19th December between 9.30am and noon and have your say!

The painting of the bridge is due to be finished and hopefully dried by March 2010.

FYI - It is purported that the decorative iron panels that are missing on the bridge went to make Spitfire planes in World War Two.

Got something to say?
