Snooker & I
Snooker is a sport where you pot balls with a snooker cue. The table is a rectangular shape which consists of six pockets (four corners, two middle) and twenty-two balls (white, yellow, green, brown, blue, pink and black and also fifteen reds in a triangle underneath the pink spot). Normally, two players take part.
This sport makes me feel good about myself because I have played snooker for four years and I have played for Wales against Ireland in a best-of-six match (Wales won 4-2) and I’m also reigning Cwmbran Division 2 Champion. I enter a lot of Welsh events and try to come in the top six each season so to qualify for Wales again, hopefully.
It is a hard game but when you have as much years of practise as I have, it gradually becomes easier. I usually play with my friends on the weekend in my spare time; I used to play at least three or four times a week but now I’m trying to focus on my college course and try to achieve good qualifications in IT BTEC 1st Diploma and Welsh Baccalaureate. Next year, I’m hoping to qualify for the European Under-19’s Championships in April held in Ukraine, Kiev. I’m hoping to achieve this because if I get far enough like the quarter finals, then I might turn professional.
I look up to Betred.com World Snooker Championship Semi-Finalist, Mark Allen and Roewe Shanghai Masters 2010 Champion Ali Carter. Another player that I would class my favourite player is Paul Hunter. Sadly, he died of cancer in 2006 and now he is known as a legend, he defeated most of the best players in the game and he was class and could have made it far. These three are my favourite players because of their consistency and their cueing actions are perfect. I have watched Allen and Carter live at the Welsh Open 2010 held in Newport at their best; they got pretty far in this tournament.
My ambitions in snooker is to try and make it professional and to be known, because I’ve been playing snooker for a long time and I feel now I need to make this sport one of my ambitions in life. Another reason why I would want to make it professional is that I would love to have my name engraved on the World Snooker Championship Trophy so then I wouldn’t be forgotten.
