Sarah Baker's The One
I wrote the poem The One when I was in high school back in 2001.
I was always being bullied for being either overweight, ginger or gothic, but I had a great group of friends who were always there for me.
In 2006 I was asked by Carol, of Grassroots, if I would like to join others in making a video for one of my poems, and - deciding it could be a bit of fun - I said yes.
I chose this poem because it is one of my favourites and has the most meaning behind it. About a year after I made the video I found out that I had won an award for it from Save The Children organisation and that it is now being used throughout schools and youth centres as part of an anti-bullying campaign.
I hope that many people will learn from this and that it will show the victims of bullying that, no matter how hard life may seem, with the right group of friends and enough inner strength, bullies can be made to point the finger at themselves instead of others.
If you have been bullied, it's not something that you really get over, but you can get through it.
We LOVE Sarah's video and show it when we hold workshops, where it always gets a good response. Get bullying help here.
