Review: Pulp Party @ Clwb
Arriving at Clwb Ifor Bach at just after seven on Tuesday 23rd August there were huge groups of teens waiting to be let in for the Pulp Party. The Pulp Party is generally a publicity stunt to get people to know about their store in St. David's 2 and it is also where they give out a few free items as the night rolls on.
Getting in line and feeling isolated due to being on my own as my friends had yet to arrive, suddenly I’m asked if I wanted a free hug from two random people. I decided to befriend them. Finally at 7:30pm the bouncers opened the doors for everyone to be let in.
With excitement bubbling, I started to worry as there were only a few tickets left. It was unfortunate that Pulp had run out and you could only buy them on the door, lucky enough I got the last one. There was no re-entry to the club so you couldn’t leave for fresh air.
At first nothing was really happening. The music was playing really loud, you had pulsing lights and the smoke machine would spray out a few puffs. Everyone was just standing around, not really dancing or doing much when a few people decided to start a mosh pit (for those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s when you run into people and just shove them all over the place, generally the more people involved the better). That was when everyone pressed up against the outer edge of the room in one circle so they wouldn’t get hurt. It was hard to know what was going on because in the end everyone stopped but most people still stayed pressed around the edge of the room.
As the night went on more music was played, it ranged from dubstep to My Chemical Romance. It was absolutely great when they played Architects, even though not many people knew the song. Lots of people started to have fun and mingle; it was great to meet some knew and unexpectedly awesome people that I would never really socialise with on a normal day.
Eventually I mustered up enough courage to get involved in a mosh pit; it was weird because everyone was just insane! Getting involved in one of the big ones where around fifteen people throw themselves around was hilarious! Just getting crushed in between others was scary but exhilarating at the same time (this is something I advise you not to do, as you will wake up sore and aching in the morning, plus you can get seriously hurt during them).
During the night there were a lot more mosh pits but a few bursts of dancing, although not much. The music they played wasn’t as good as the last one and I was a little disappointed that a lot of people were just sitting around the sides, however I think it was a lot more fun! I felt I could be myself and thus, made new friends, got a few to consider theSprout.co.uk and just thoroughly enjoyed myself.
As the night started coming to a close, it was very smoky and you could barely see, they threw a few more free goodies out into the crowd causing a lot of people to get crushed. the music was still loud and pulsing through the walls, when eventually the house lights got turned on and the party was over.
