Review: Hooded Fang - Gravez
Is it wrong to like a band that makes short albums?
I mean hip hop is usually the worst culprit for overlong albums, with running times of 70+ minutes filled with unfunny skits and studio floor dregs. There is no time and no need for filler, choose your best songs and thrash them out.
That’s Hooded Fang’s approach and it works, ripping through 10 tracks in less than 30 minutes. It helps that they flit about the edges of surf rock and psych, genres that don’t lend themselves to nine-minute opuses about castles on fire. And it’s not that they’re bereft of ideas or tunes, quite the opposite, they simply understand when to quit.
Gravez doesn’t really expand on 2012’s excellent Tosta Mista and neither does it need to as their sunshine is the spotless and eternal kind.
The video above tells you everything you need to know, you either dig Gravez or you don’t, either way it’s not a strenuous task to undertake.
They’re touring the UK in September but the closest they come to Cardiff is Birmingham on the 23rd.
Gravez by Hooded Fang is out on Monday 27th May 2013
