Review: Duggs
I don't often write reviews, but when TheSprout was given the opportunity to review this season's doggy fashion must have - Duggs - I couldn't resist testing them out on Murphy, my Boston Terrier.
The first decisions to make were on size and colour. Well, the colour bit was easy, with red being Murphy's favourite colour, it won hands down over black or pink. But, when it came to shoe size I was a little flummoxed, as I had no idea what size would fit Murphy. Fortunately, it turns out that doggy shoe sizes make a lot more sense that human sizes do (with all measurements being sensibly listed in centimetres). So I kept Murphy occupied with a bag of chews whilst I carefully measured his tiny paws.
The quality of the boots is excellent. They are fluffy and warm inside, covered in a suede-like material, have mini zips up the back and Velcro straps. The soles are made from a flexible plastic finish, have paw-patterned grips and claim to be non-slip. There is no denying it, these boots are super cute and I was impressed by the attention to detail.
It was a little unclear as to which paws to put the boots on. I couldn't work out whether there were two outside and two inside boots, whether they were front or back specific or if it mattered at all. It would be useful if they came with a diagram or some information about which paws to put them on and importantly how to test that they are well fitted.
As soon as they were on Murphy's paws, he started chewing at them and attempting to get them off. After a few tugs and some cautious steps, the boots were already moving out of place. His paws were no longer reaching the ends of the boots and he was walking out of them. I tightened the Velcro straps and this mainly solved the problem, although I did have to adjust them on a couple of further occasions.
Aside from that, they seemed to do the job. He quickly got used to them and found he could run and jump around like usual. I imagine it will take a few goes before he's completely comfortable with wearing them, but for a first attempt I was pretty satisfied.
So why would you buy Duggs, you may ask? Well according to the manufacturers, they protect paws from the ice in the winter or hot tarmac in the summer and protect your wooden floors from scratches. Murphy hates going outside in the icy weather, so I can see these coming in handy as it gets colder. They also look totally diva and are a fun, cute dog accessory.
