I’m sure you may have seen or at least heard about the new Ben & Jerry's Core ice cream. There are three of them by the names of Berry White, Dough-ble Whammy and last but not least Karamel Sutra.

These lovely creations are currently on offer at Tesco and I am at that stage in my school year where I have stacks of revision and need to try and keep myself motivated. So Ben & Jerry’s have come to the rescue; over the past two days my boyfriend and I have worked our way through two and a half pots of yummy-ness, so I thought as a break I would write a review on each pot.

Berry White

Opening the lid we can see lovely summery colours, a light pink with darker pink pieces of raspberry embedded in the ice cream, the other half a simple looking vanilla ice cream containing white chocolate chunks. The dark brown truffle core provides a contrast in colours.

Although the ice cream has a very refreshing light flavour that I could eat all day long, the core didn’t taste like truffle (or at least not what I had expected) and I found this a real let down as the core runs all the way through and ruins the lightness of the ice cream.

Dough-ble Whammy

A rich fabulous chocolate ice cream beside a creamy cookie dough ice cream, which has mini cookie dough balls throughout, and a core of chocolate fudge.

The chocolate ice cream is fantastic and tastes great but it’s one of those things that you have in small amounts, as it is very rich. The cookie dough ice cream is a great balance to the richness of the chocolate ice cream and the mini dough balls have an interesting texture as they are softer than the ice cream but are frozen in the centre, which gives a little crunch. Again I don’t think the core really adds to the whole thing and tastes very much like the core that is in Berry White. Again I think it would have been better without the core.

Karamel Sutra

The fabulous rich chocolate ice cream makes a reappearance but this time with chunks of milk chocolate, paired with a caramel ice cream and a sticky caramel core.

As an entire package this is my favourite, the core is justified with the choice of ice creams and adds to the whole flavour, again they have the balance right with the creamy caramel and rich chocolate flavours. I think that the name they have picked for this one explains it all!

All in all I think that the new range is a great idea but they should perhaps rethink the core idea, for example the Berry White should perhaps have a raspberry or white chocolate sauce instead of the truffle, which is far too overpowering. I’d like to see Ben & Jerry's redo them without the core and just do half and halves because they have done really well in balancing the flavours.

Excuse the camera work, it is the work of amateurs as eating ice cream was more important that taking pictures, enjoy!

Not sure the name 'Karamel Sutra' is entirely appropriate... But it looks so gosh darn yummy.

Dough-ble Whammy sounds amazing! I must try that one day. I wonder if it will be better than my favorite, Phish Food... x
