Refugee Week 2009

Monday 15 - Saturday 20 June

Refugee Week is part of a UK wide programme of arts and educational events which celebrates the contribution made by refugees and asylum seekers to UK culture.  The Sherman Theatre will be hosting a number of free workshops in the run-up to the event, as well as putting on a week's worth of top-quality performances.

Free tickets are available to asylum seekers.

For more information, or to reserve a place for any of these workshops, contact Llinos Mai or Fleur Missaghian:

Get Involved

Come and be part of some fantastic free workshops taking place during the run-up to Refugee Week:

Dance - Workshops with Earthfall

Working with individual and shared ways of moving, these workshops will enable participants to create a dance project that expresses their stories and culture.  Taster workshops will begin in May and participants will then

work together during Refugee Week to create a dance performance.

Sponsored by the Community Activities Fund

Drama - Workshops with Living Pictures

Using Shakespeare’s The Tempest as a starting point, these workshops will explore how we create theatre.  The workshops, led by actor and theatre director Robert Bowman, will provide opportunities to learn about the craft

of acting, devising and musical composition.

Music - Cross-Cultural Community Women’s Choir

Would you like to sing with women from different backgrounds and cultures? Why not come along to a new series of singing workshops run by Rabab Ghazoul in Riverside. These workshops are open to all women

and are a chance to relax, have fun and learn songs from around the world - no prior singing experience necessary!  The singing workshops take place every Monday, 10.30am - 12.30pm.  For information about joining the Cross-Cultural Community Women's Choir, see our page in the events calendar.
