We are very pleased to announce that this month's Reading Power Book Club selection is Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher.

This book will be discussed at the next Reading Power Book Club meet up on Saturday 14th February 2015.

If the name Annabel Pitcher rings a bell that may be because she also wrote My Sister Lives On The Mantelpiece, which was Reading Power Book #4, way back in June 2012.

But let's get back to the present day and back to Ketchup Clouds - what's it about and is it any good?

Fifteen-year-old Zoe has a secret - a dark and terrible secret that she can't confess to anyone she knows. But then one day she hears of a criminal, Stuart Harris, locked up on death row in Texas. Like Zoe, Stuart is no stranger to secrets. Or lies. Or murder.

Full of heartache yet humour, Zoe tells her story in the only way she can - in letters to the man in prison in America. Armed with a pen, Zoe takes a deep breath, eats a jam sandwich, and begins her tale of love and betrayal.

So that's a little bit on what it's about but is it any good? Well it won the Waterstones Children's Book Prize in 2013 and the Young Adult Fiction prize at the 2014 Edgar Awards. Critics have said things like "Ketchup Clouds, is a taut and compelling tale of secrets, lies and guilt" (The Telegraph) and "Ketchup Clouds is risky, confident, compelling and ends, as all prize-winning teen novels seemingly must, with hope for redemption and self-forgiveness." (The Guardian). So yes, it's meant to be pretty good.

You don't have to buy the book to take part in the club, just take a trip to your local library and borrow one for free (and we've been promised there's plenty of copies available).

Once you've read the book, or as you're reading along, come back here and post your thoughts in the comments section below. Please note that you have to be signed in to comment - if you're not already a member of theSprout you can register here - any problems email Sam@TheSprout.co.uk

Please share your views on the book and let's get the discussion going and remember to come on down to Central Library on Saturday 14th February 2015 to chat face-to-face about Ketchup Clouds.
