Rain, And Other Words That Rhyme With Rain
Author’s Note: I’m not one to usually write poetry, but when inspiration strikes, eh?
The rain kept me up last night.
And try as I might to win this fight,
With my bright, usually light-hearted mind,
To find solace in sleep,
Instead of being deep in thought.
I instead find entwined around my mind
Old memories, which in the nature of being old,
Are also bold.
They can’t be sold or folded up and thrown away.
They can’t be told nor controlled.
So I lie, try to pry my thoughts,
From my sly, dry memory sky.
I’m not doing too well.
Too much to ask to bask in temporary mask of sleep?
It would seem so because the flow,
Of memories I know slowly starts to grow.
I can’t let them go,
Until a blow to the head just becomes status quo.
As the rain allows the chains around my brain,
To maintain their reign of pain:
And as the stains on my otherwise plain,
Daisy-chain framed mind,
Combined with my blind, undefined view,
Of the future continue to,
Cause the flaws I see in me,
To claw at my soul,
My whole being, now seeing,
How pathetically mundane I am,
Now starts to ponder if I am strong enough,
To feign a smile convincing enough,
To pretend and fool my friends.
And more importantly myself.
Or am I so weak I must spend the week,
Trying to console myself by concealing myself,
In my room and writing a mediocre poem,
In a feeble endeavour to try and make,
My life seem clever or as though,
It might have some sort of value?
