Proud To Be Welsh?
Last month we spent some time with Year 11 pupils at Llanrumney High School.
We asked them what they thought of being Welsh, and their locality in general.
Here's what some of them had to say...
"I like being Welsh for some reasons, as it is where I was born. However, there are lots of things I don't like about it! The weather is always changing; we never have a proper summer or winter.
"I hate people that judge us by sheep, just because there are lots of them here, and when we go into another country or place, people might say things just because we are from Wales. They are judging us by where we are from, not who we are." -- Georgina Greenway
"I am proud to be Welsh becuase I was born here and I represent my culture. I don't speak Welsh because I find it too hard to learn, and even though I don't like the weather, it is cool. Welsh and proud!" -- Maina Kuwale
"I like living in Wales because it's my home. I do not like Llanrumney because it's quite rough and can be boring, and there isn't much around for us. There are some activities available, like at Eastern Leisure Centre where we can use the gym or go swimming". -- Lisha
"I love living in Llanrumney in Wales because my school is here, and my family and my friends all live here". -- Stephanie Thomas & Leah
"I like living in Old St Mellons. It is nice and quiet and there are not that many gangs that hang around there. I like living there because I have friends that I sometimes play football with.
"There is not that much around there, but it is easy to get a bus from there to town or other places. The people there look out for each other, and would help you if needed. So, living in Old St Mellons is good". -- Nicholas Howell
"I love living in Llanrumney because I've lived there since I was born, and I've grown up here. I also have wicked mates who I go out with for a laugh and have fun". -- Dale Gunning
"Llanrumney in Wales is where I live. To be honest, it's a total hole, and that's the only nice way I can put it.
You have yobs running round from 10am until around 1am smashing windows, and generally abusing the community. Where I work - in a shop based in Llanrumney - my boss has had enough of the trouble these yobs cause, and has had the police involved several times.
Despite telling him the police wouldn't do much, he doesn't listen. I've told him the only way to stop these yobs causing trouble outside his shop is to either speak to their parents politley or even take matter into his own hands and smash the living **** out of them. That's what I'd do.
Llanrumney isn't as bad as everyone thinks, however. There are some really nice people living here. For example, where I live is a nice, quiet place near Burnham Avenue." -- Chris
