Preview: The Vaselines
The Vaselines, an indie pop duo made up of Eugene Kelly and Fraces McKee from Glasgow, have recently announced their comeback with a brand new album titled Sex With An X due out on September 13th.
Taking their name from the popular petroleum brand, they also named themselves The Vaselines as they wanted to be right before The Velvet Underground in canon of seminal rock bands.
Already broken up by the time that cult grunge hero Kurt Cobain from Nirvana covered one of their songs, Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam; what greater publicity is there than the most famous rockstar in the world covering one of your songs?
Gaining a new following of people who wanted to listen to them simply owing to their influence on Cobain, it blew a new lease of life into the Scottish indie-popsters, although they had only released one album, Dum Dum, and two singles, Son Of A Gun (this and Molly's Lips were also covered on Nirvana's Incesticide) and Dying For It.
The Vaselines are playing a 14+ show at The Millennium Music Hall on the 19th of September, and tickets are ten pounds in advance.
