Preview: Peter Broderick @ Four Bars

The fact that Fizzi Events have managed to ensnare the services of Peter Broderick in a venue as small as Cardiff's Four Bars is nothing short of a triumph.
Having still not reached the dizzy heights of thirty years of age, Portland, Oregon's Broderick has been honing his craft for almost a decade and has is known as much for his collaborative work as he is for his solo efforts.
As well as being a touring member of legendary Danish indie collective Efterklang for over five years (which included his most recent visit to Cardiff), Broderick has proffered his services as a session musician to many artists and bands, including fellow Portlandians M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel's She & Him project. During the period of the last ten years, he has also managed to find the time to record and release a couple of dozen solo and collaborative EPs and LPs, centred around the well respected Bella Union and Erased Tapes labels.
His most recent release, Colours Of The Night was released through Bella Union in April 2015 is something of a departure from his usual work (not than anyone can accuse Broderick of having a set plan). Upon completion of his previous album, he struggled to contemplate how to recreate it on stage and cancelled all of his tour plans for the foreseeable. An unlikely request from residents of Lucerne, Switzerland saw Broderick pack his bags and set to work on what would eventually become Colours Of The Night with the help of local musicians; a far cry from how this somewhat reclusive multi-instrumentalist had worked up until now.
