Poem: Welcome To Earth

  • Actually a 3D map of all the satellites in orbit around the earth - part of the London Science Museum display.

The cracks on the Earth’s pavement
multiply
as greedy footsteps pound harder

The empty shelves of a damned nation
are dusted
but not filled by those who know nothing of hunger

The doors of the blameless are flung open by war
yet locked away safely
are the creators of destruction

False promises mount up in landfill
and as the waste overflows
so do the purses of these professional litterbugs

The model Homo sapiens is synthesised
to be oneself is undesirable
and of course love is out of fashion

And yet the power station of humanity drives on
fed by fakery
life is but a drop of oil, used up in an instant

A troubled race, a troubled place
welcome to planet Earth

Well said tommy b. It's sad to think about how much we're destroying the planet. A beautifully written and really thought provoking piece.

Got something to say?
