PaperGirl Cardiff: Free Art By Bike
For those of you who haven’t already seen the information regarding this new project on the events pages, PaperGirl is an exciting art distribution project that will be taking place around Cardiff.
The project itself has its roots in Berlin and involves members of the public submitting their pieces of artwork to PaperGirl. These pieces will then be exhibited in a gallery before distributing the art to unsuspecting city centre pedestrians. This is done via an organized bicycle ride, where the cyclists distribute the rolled up art whilst on the move.
Anything can be submitted: drawings; paintings; posters; zines; writings; textiles; prints; photos; poems; short stories; even your Sprout articles. The only requirement is that the art be flexible enough to be rolled up and are no larger than A2. Also remember to enclose a contact e-mail address or number with your work. All submissions will be used, so care and consideration should be taken that the contents not be too offensive or obscene.
ThinkARK will also be hosting a PaperGirl Cardiff evening on Wednesday May 4th at 7pm, upstairs in the Cardiff Arts Institute. If you are interested in getting involved with the project, want to find out more about submitting artwork or even want to volunteer as a cyclist distributor then feel free to go along. There will also be pens and paper available for anyone who would like to do a bit of on-the-spot artwork and doodling for the project.
This is a great way to gain exposure for your work and get it out into the wider world. The beautiful thing about this project is that you will be making someone’s day. Imagine being given the gift of a piece of beautiful, original artwork for no reason, whilst walking to work or wandering aimlessly around town. This will make someone smile and that is a great cause.
For more information be sure to visit the PaperGirl Blog or come along to the Cardiff Arts Institute exhibition evening. Submissions are being taken now and can be mailed to any of the four following addresses:
Cardiff Cycle Workshop, Unit 4 Ely Brewery Workshops, Ely Bridge Industrial Estate. CF5 4AQ
