WORDS: Steven Lawless /

The Gallagher brothers return to Cardiff in the summer of 2009 for their sold-out tour, when they perform at the Millennium Stadium on Friday 12 June.

Brit-pop veterans Oasis are set to cover eight dates in June and July including Manchester (6-7), Sunderland (10), Cardiff (12), Edinburgh (17), Slane Castle (20) and London Wembley Stadium (July 11-12).

With the recent release of their seventh studio album, Dig Out Your Soul the band have returned with a vengeance releasing their avidly waited debut single, The Shock Of The Lightning.

The band's return has already created speculation of them headlining next year's Glastonbury festival in Somerset with other headliners being contemplated such as Morrissey and Coldplay, although the current line-up is shrouded in mystery.

In usual fashion, Noel and Liam have refused to comment on any unreleased tour dates, so we'll have to wait until the full line-up is revealed by the Glastonbury organiser, Michael Eavis.

Oasis, arguably the pioneers of Brit-pop in the early nineties have been notoriously involved in conflicts over gigs and festivals ever since their debuting gigs in Glasgow at the King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in Scotland.

The band were refused entry and eventually forced their way onto the set-list and were so impressive they were signed on the very same night by Creation Records co-owner, Alan McGee and well the rest is almost self-explanatory.

Love them or hate them, Oasis are a band who have rightly deserved their success, struggling for a record deal in 1991 the Gallagher brothers and co have revolutionised the music industry which an unlimited back catalogue of Brit-pop and indie classics.

The most obvious are clearly Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Champagne Supernova to name a few personal favourites.

I have my ticket for the Cardiff gig; let's just hope you've done the same! Hope to see you there.
