Hmmm, what’s this Sproutdirect thingy that everyone is talking about?  Yes, you may have noticed a new banner on our homepage directing you to theSproutdirect.  If you haven’t clicked on it already, hold your horses and have a read of this first!

TheSproutdirect is a very clever directory which will help you guys find services in Cardiff that can help you, if ever you feel you need a little help (which we could all do with at times).  You can find out so much stuff, from where’s my nearest youth club to finding somewhere to live.  There may be times when you find yourself wanting some good advice but don’t know who to ask.  Well, theSproutdirect can help you.

How is it different to the 'Organisations' section on theSprout? I hear you ask.

Well, theSproutdirect is aimed to work hand in hand with the ‘Organisation’ function on theSprout and both are essentially there to help you. The big difference comes in how they help you: whereas the ‘Organisation’ function does a good job of showing you all of the services that we hold information on, it doesn’t do a particularly good job of narrowing down exactly what service is right for you.  This is where theSproutdirect comes in; its search features allow you to find your nearest youth club based on your post code, or to find a course that is running by searching for a particular accreditation (i.e NVQ or Food Hygiene).  You can narrow down your search options to find exactly what you want and there is an A-Z feature that allows you to quickly and easily navigate around the full service listing.

The benefits of theSproutdirect aren’t just limited to finding a service, as once you have found a service it shows you much more than the basic information which you find in the ‘Organisation’ function.  It tells you what language the service is available in, what age ranges the service is targeted at, what accreditation / learning opportunities are available and its integration with Google maps shows you exactly where the service runs from.  By using Google Street View you can even ‘stand’ outside and have a look at the building before you go along.

I’m sure you’ve seen the new links to theSproutdirect which have been uploaded onto theSprout in the past couple of days, if not where have you been?? Follow the links to theSproutdirect or go directly to www.thesproutdirect.co.uk.

Remember! theSproutdirect is a tool aimed to help you, the young people of Cardiff!   Why not give it a go and tell us what you think in the comment box below.
