My Work Experience @ ProMo-Cymru
At the end of the school year, I went on my work experience at ProMo-Cymru, but beforehand I had to write an article for theSprout (a website that they help run). It was called The Best of British: London Fashion Week A/W15. After doing so, I was accepted to do my work experience there. Trust be told, I did not know what to expect because it was my first time being in a working environment.
13th July was my first day and I wrote the newsletter for theSprout and went to a three-hour meeting, but it did get more fun as the week went on. I met the loving employers who were nothing but kind.
On the second day, I wrote a two-page article called The Teen Guide To A Great Summer Holidays In Cardiff. I also wrote about Sustainable Food Cities and Cardiff Carnival. I found writing fun and it gave me a better insight into what a journalist's life is like. At lunch, I was allowed out. This was great because it allowed me to wander around Cardiff Bay, giving me a sense of independence. Travelling to work everyday on the bus also gave me confidence, as well as independence.
On Wednesday, I got to go with Sam, the Editor of theSprout to promote theSprout in the Welsh Assembly. It was there that I gained the courage to start conversations with people and inform them about theSprout and what it does. We also had free food, which I loved.
Thursday, Tom, the Sub-Editor of theSprout and I went to the museum to look at the dinosaur bones of the new Welsh dinosaur. We interviewed a lady who told us all about the dinosaur and it was a great experience. The following day (my last day), I wrote an article about the dinosaur and also an article on the project StaySafe.
All in all, I had a great time and met great people. If you are interested in journalism or writing or just want to have a fun work placement, go to ProMo-Cymru.
