My Videos For ENO's Mini Operas Competition

Below are three films that I made for English National Opera’s Mini Operas competition last year. There were three parts; writing, composing and filming. I took part in the later. The writing side along had over 500 entries. The film side less than 30…

What went wrong here? Is it a statement about video work in opera? Is it needed today? Granted the two other sides of the competition went through and had finalists and winner. The video side was cancelled. It was on Vimeo (the site in which we had to upload the films) that the other film makers got together and shared their work on one page. It was very nice to see the other people’s work. Some looked so professional that it raised the question of whether they needed a years worth of mentoring (that would have been the prize). It was exciting since Terry Gilliam of Monty Python, Brazil and other curiosities, was to judge the films. I do wonder if he saw them in the end…

So, I wanted to share them with you on here. Feel free to have a look. See what you think. Can you understand what I was going for with these? They were to accompany the actions on stage on a screen, rather than documenting the events of an opera itself.
