My ProMo Work Experience
Overview
I come from a school in Penarth and through the Career Wales database I was able to find ProMo-Cymru.
Before going on work experience I wasn't that sure what ProMo-Cymru did or what their organisation was all about, all I knew was that its work was media-based and that is was a great opportunity.
Day 1
Up early and ready to go but extremely nervous, I made my way to the train station wear I met my best friend and from there we made our way to Cardiff Bay. As my friend was working elsewhere we parted ways and I made my way to ProMo. The first person I met was a women called Pat who was extremely helpful and told me lots about ProMo and the team. I then met the rest of the team throughout the day and worked with Arielle, theSprout editor who was very informative and told me about theSprout. Throughout the day I wrote a report and uploaded events for the website. I finished the day at four and made my way home.
Day 2
Again I made my way to the office looking forward to delivering theSprout's magazine to different places in Cardiff but for the first half of the morning I finished another report and uploaded more events. It then came to delivery time and it was fun trying to fit as many boxes of the new Sproutzine Issue 2 in a small Ka. During the delivery it started raining which didn't make it too fun but the end of the day soon came.
Day 3
The morning started off later than usual as the national editor of CLIC was picking me up to go and see the launch of the new V-Pod which was made for young people living in the Vale Of Glamorgan. I was at the launch to take notes as when I went back to the office I wrote a report about the pod and what it does for the local community. I then finished work at four.
Day 4
I went to the office and was then picked up to go to Burning Red, which is a company which works in partnership with ProMo and it designs all of the magazines and websites.
I sat in on a little meeting which was about Battle Of The Bands, and how they were going to organise it. I then went back to the office and now I’m writing this after I met my overall supervisor and am concluding my last day.
Conclusion
Overall I have had a great time at ProMo-Cymru and have learnt a lot of skills and how a workplace runs. The people here have all been lovely and they have made sure I'm not cooped up in the office all day. I have taken away with me some good experiences and have learnt on a smaller scale what a daily job is. Hopefully many more people will get a chance to come here and I'm sure they will have a great time.
