My First Photo Essay: Light
Hello Sprouters,
As promised, this is my (late) first personal photography article. I'm taking these articles as little projects, on different subjects, so they'll probably be pretty inconsistent time-wise with me completing and uploading them, but I’ll try to be quick.
I knew that I wanted to do my first one on late autumn/winter, but I felt it needed something more specific to make it more challenging, and ultimately more enjoyable or interesting for you.
So at first I was wondering whether to do it on the recent flurry of snow, or maybe even the orange, dying trees turning to their empty carcasses of now, but when walking home from school one day, I had a little eureka moment.
The streetlamps in the dark lit up the trees around them, and the autumn leaves reflected the rays of light. This gave me the inspiration to use light to tie my project into one theme, Light.
The photos shown were all taken recently, both in late November or December, and by me and my humble camera. Unfortunately I can only show 5 on here, but I will post all of them on my Flickr (address at the bottom of the page).
First up is the sight I saw while walking home, only taken a little later when the sun had dropped from the sky.
The second is of a snow covered tree in a winter sunset taken down at Heath Park, Cardiff.
All the next three were taken at or surrounding Heath Holt Station, firstly of a car passing over a bridge at Holt Lower.
The next was taken on Heath Holt Higher looking down at the traffic below; it's quite a busy image, or a messy one! But I do like it and lastly, is a photo of an empty train pulling up in the snow to only 1 passenger.
And that's it, if you have anything to say, please do in the comments below, don't be too mean it's my first time! ;)
If anyone has any ideas of a new topic either, please say that too and I’ll get onto it ASAP.
Please bear in mind I had to compress all the images drastically just to upload them, so if you wish to see them in the way they were intended, just follow the link to my Flickr below.
Finally, if you think you have a great photo of autumn/winter or light, contact me and I’ll try and post it in my next article.
Thanks Sprouter!

Really good. The last one feels like a film noir which I loved, and the second one is just beautiful. So many times over winter I wished I had a camera on me! Or...at all.

Thanks guys, although the fact that if i take the photos portrait doesn't help on here.>.< It only shows about two thirds of the image. e.g. #1, #2, #5.

I love these. I've got a few of my own following a similar dark/light theme. I'll upload them when the gallery feature's up-and-running!
