As with everything on theSprout.co.uk, the views in this article are those of the author and not necessarily of theSprout.co.uk

Many of you, the readers, will see articles pop up here all the time but some of them are just repeating stuff that everyone has already heard of or knows about.

Say for example, I wrote an article on smoking, giving all the facts and all of that stuff; haven't we all heard that kind of stuff before?

I think what might be going on here is people just writing articles without thinking stuff through, because after all, doesn't the writer want to make it onto the top five read articles, read out at the Sprout Editorial Meeting?

How are they going to get lots of views and comments if people have already heard that stuff? Because in reality, what someone on the internet will generally do is scroll through and it is the heading that will catch their attention. If someone sees a heading that they have already seen or know about, then they are not going to want to click on it.

In fact, we are so quick at losing attention on the internet; our attention span is actually less than a goldfish's! Some people write articles just to maybe try to make their account look good with lots of articles, but if you ask me, it is just a waste of their own time and takes up unnecessary space in the articles section. Reviews and articles on events and that kind of stuff that no one knows about is fine, don't get me wrong... but the whole point in me writing this article is to just let people know that if they want to make it to the top five articles, then they need to really think about what stuff they are submitting and if it has already been heard before millions of times.

I can see where you're coming from sean123 but theSprout is happy to publish articles on whatever young people want to write about, as long as it's not plagiarised and sticks to the style guide (i.e. isn't offensive, racist, homophobic etc.).

If you're looking for things to write about, come along to the editorial group meetings and/or join our editorial group on Facebook.

Finally, we'd like to up our game on stuff like gaming, sport, gig reviews and local news, as they always do well on attracting clicks and comments.
