Merry Christmas and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Did you know taht Father Christmas is based on a real person - St. Nicholas. which comes from the Dutch 'Sinterklaas'.
Nicholas was a Christian leader from Myra (in modern-day Turkey) in the 4th century AD. He was very shy and wanted to give money to poor people without them knowing about it.
It is believed that one day, he climbed the roof of a house and dropped a purse of money down the chimney. It landed in the stocking which a girl had put to dry by the fire! This may explain the belief that Father Christmas comes down the chimney and places gifts in children's stockings.
According to our Christmas poll 81.8% of our users are looking forward to their winter holidays and waiting for Santa to come around. There are some, who are not impressed by the whole Christmas fuss and 5.3% will not enjoy it as much. 13.2% could not care less if Santa will pass by their house and just carry on as usual enjoying their holidays and get back to their daily routine next year.
