Mardi Gras Returns!
On Saturday 3rd September Coopers Field, Cardiff will be transformed for the annual Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras main event. This year the volunteer organising committee have been working tirelessly since the last event to make it bigger and better than before.
Following a successful launch in 2010, the Cardiff Mardi Gras Festival will run for the whole week leading up to the main event and feature arts events and activities around the city. We will confirm the full details and listings for the festival in an article soon.
This year’s theme for Cardiff Wales Mardi Gras is ‘Be Yourself’, so why not come along and show your support in showing that LGBT people are no different than any other people in the world. You will be guaranteed a good time and be entertained by DJs, local bands (The Motive, winner of Battle of the Bands, to name one), drag queens, national performers and many other acts.
Alongside the Main Stage there will be the following areas:
- Market stalls (everything from rainbow feather boas to information from Stonewall Cymru)
- Youth Zone supported by Loud & Proud, Cardiff Youth Service, TheSprout, Cardiff Women's Aid and many others
- Fairground rides
- Dance tent
- Cabaret garden
- Bars and catering
Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras is a free event and is run by a committee of volunteers who work tirelessly on top of their jobs to make this event happen. Did you know it costs £115,000 a year to run Mardi Gras? This is raised by fundraising, sponsorship and donations. So please, if you can donate a little to Cardiff Mardi Gras to keep it free, visit the website for more details.
So please come and show your support for this event and Be Yourself on Saturday 3rd September 2011 in Coopers Field.

"It's legal to be gay now... which is good, I think!" Oh how I love you Eric! =P
Also, circus skills and facepaint? I'm so there!
