Leaving School
Leaving school is one of the biggest moments you can face in life.
These days it's tougher because there are less jobs out there and more people applying for them.
I went on a job website recently and there were almost 200 applicants for most of the jobs you don’t need degrees for.
It's a massive decision to make a choice of career. I've had six jobs in different areas of work and still haven’t found the job I want. It was only when I started volunteering that I found a career I wanted.
I never really knew where to turn or who to go to for advice. The school I was in only had a careers advisor in two days a week. It was really hard to get an appointment and all the help was given to the lower set pupils. I know they need more help but further education isn’t for everyone.
I think there should be a work experience year for school leavers. They should be able to go into jobs and find out what they are like. There are so many people that dislike their jobs and having work experience can really help to decide on that job for life.
I know you can always retrain later in life, but it you can find that job for you at the start, life would be so much easier.
