Killing For Company

WORDS: Joseph Burns /

Not to be confused with the song by death metal band Prostitute Disfigurement (Google brings up the weirdest things...), Stuart Cable's new band Killing For Company performed at Fight Night at The Muni in Pontypridd on Saturday 29 November.

Having left his post as drummer for the Stereophonics in 2003, Cable has moved on to a heavier sound with his new band.

However, the crowd, mainly full of 12-year-olds wearing black, were more interested in opening band I Call Shotgun, who were trying just a little bit too hard to be The Blackout for my liking.

Next band up was A470, a generic local metal band who played well and got the crowd going (said 12-year-olds diving around to a metal band is the greatest thing your ever likely to see).

Killing For Company came out last to a rapturous cheer from the under 14s contingent (and the four or five overaged people in the crowd). The performance was rather anti-climactic, however.

They had two guitarists and when played together they made a noise which I couldn't really make out as a tune. The singer, Greg Jones, doesn't have a voice prominent enough to be heard over the noise of the guitars.

Apart from this, the drumming was excellent and when the music wasn't playing, Jones worked wonders with the microphone, bartering with the crowd and keeping them begging for more.

All in all, KFC has a lot of potential and their studio work is very good, but live they leave a lot to be desired.

Got something to say?
