I ♥ Horses
This is for all those horse lovers out there.??
It should serve as a useful guide to anyone with a passion for horses and who would love to know a little more about them.?
I'm a young girl with a love for horses.? Although I don't have any of my own, I am lucky enough to have a friend who keeps two horses (called Lois and Spencer) on her farm, and I regularly help to take care of them.??
I look after them and ride them, both of which are great experiences.? Here are some of the things I have come to learn from working with horses, which I hope you will find interesting:
1. While most people know?a baby horse is called a foal, not so many know that a baby girl is called a Filly and a baby boy is called a Colt
2. Most foals can walk within one hour of being born
3. If they are left out in the field or stable for a long period of time,?some horses and ponies can get irritable, and in my experience this can lead to naughty behaviour
4. Horses can be very dangerous animals, and whilst around a horse you must be cautious at all times, no matter how calm they may be
5. Whilst riding, if you are going round in a circle to the right, you are on the right rein and if on the left, you are on the left rein
6. Horses can be used in many competitions. Here are?some of the competitions:
Dressage
Show Jumping
Cross Country
Barrel-Racing
Eventing
Racing
7. A male horse that has been castrated is called a Gelding and one that hasn't been castrated is called a Stallion
8. When horses are swishing their tails, they are either swatting away flies?or sending signals to other horses about how they are feeling
9. A horse with a white coat is not described as a white horse, but as a grey
10. When you have first mucked out your stable and put your horse/pony back inside, they like to do a nice poo up against the wall for you in nice clean bedding. I think they think it's a present because you've given them clean bedding.
I hope these 10 facts have taught you a little something about horses, horse care and riding.
But here's one more thing to remember: never walk behind a horse, because you never know what those?two back legs want to do!
