Hard Rock Cardiff Closes

Cardiff's iconic Hard Rock Cafe suddenly closed its doors this morning.

The venue, which hosted live music and served food and drink to music fans from all over the world, was due to celebrate its seventh birthday tomorrow.

Offering little more than a sign on the door as an explanation, it appears that Hard Rock Cafe International as the parent company decided the venue should close.

This news comes as a particular surprise to theSprout, as only last week we met with Sales & Marketing manager Katie Coles to discuss a partnership, following the success of the CLIC Battle Of The Bands 2010 and the annual Hard Rock Calling event in Hyde Park.

The venue was also being considered for this year's Sprout Xmas Jam.

Those visiting the venue could enjoy hundreds of musical artifacts adorning the walls including a bass guitar formerly belonging to Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue, and an Ozzy Osbourne gold disc for his debut album, Blizzard Of Ozz.

The idea for instruments on the wall came from the first Hard Rock Cafe in London in the seventies, when Eric Clapton asked that an area of the bar be reserved for him. To secure his section, he sent the cafe one of his guitars to go on the wall above it. Other musicians then followed suit.

Those in Wales now wishing to visit a Hard Rock Cafe will have to travel to London or Manchester.

TheSprout has contacted Hard Rock's PR company and will update this article when we have further information.

That's a shame, I always enjoyed a few pints in the Hard Rock. I also spent a particularly hazy new year's eve there in 2008. Strange that it should close so abruptly though, you have to feel for the staff who are always welcoming and warm, what I consider as 'American style' service. Hooters it is from now on then....tsk tsk.
