CLIConline isn't just for writing. In this regular series, we celebrate the visual talents of creative CLICers: paintbrush wielders, eagle-eyed photographers, digital designers and more.

You may be aware of the CLICgallery tab at the top of this page - but did you know you could submit your photos, artwork and designs to it by emailing gallery@cliconline.co.uk? The gallery is also open to all artwork, including as cartoons, paintings, Photoshop creations and drawings.

Our first featured illustrator is SynysterKatie from WICID in Rhondda Cynon Taff, who explains some of her inspirations and advice for others:

"I'm Katie, I'm 17 years old and love anything out of the ordinary and kind of freaky. I enjoy things that are weird and creative. I listen to lots of genres of music, but my preferred has to be Rock and Heavy Metal. This type of music inspires me in many ways.

"I prefer sketching and drawing, but I tend to wander to painting occasionally. There are endless amounts of media you can create with. Even if it's a piece of paper you are about to throw out, that's been scrunched up and battered. That's what I like about art, you can use anything you want.

"I enjoy a lot of aspects of the subject. Like creating, thinking of ideas and being able to express your feelings and emotions through your artwork. However, when you hold a pencil, pen, or brush you're not restricted with rules and boundaries. No one can judge you, or tell you that what you're doing is right or wrong. It is totally your interpretation and what you personally feel is right. It's free and expressive. What more could you ask for?

"I have a few pieces I am proud of, but my "king of all drawings" has to be one of my Anime pieces. I love my Alien Vs Predator piece too. Either them, or my dragon head. But I also have another favourite, of a face morphed into a skull, which some people find rather disturbing, but I am exceptionally proud of it. It was created with watercolours, ball point pen and pencils and believe it or not, Tipp-Ex! So it was created with a variety of media.

"It is definitely a massive hobby of mine. I just love it! I would be greatly disappointed if I didn't carry my hobby on to a career. I mean, everyone wants to have a career they really enjoy. I wish to be a tattoo artist, and I know this will require massive amounts of work and dedication, as it's not the easiest thing to do. Neither is it the most shone upon career path or hobby. (Whatever you wish to call it.) All in all, I do really hope I get to do something involved with art!

"My greatest inspiration I have ever had, has to be Kat Von D (a famous tattoo artist in LA.) She is the definition of beautiful, and has some superb drawing and tattooing talents. She is my hero, the person I look up to for inspiration. Whenever I am feeling low I look to her and her past. What she's been through to get where she is now is shocking, and it always gives me hope. But if I had to give another inspiration, it has to be my mum and my dad. They have always been there, and it sounds very cliché, but they have always supported me, and they want the best for me. I know they want me to have a successful career and get all the opportunities I can to get where I want to be. They always push me to do more, which is annoying at times, but I do secretly thank them for it. And I'm sure I will benefit from this in the future.

"My tools of the trade are probably the ball point pen. It sounds ridiculously boring but the effects it can come out with are just gorgeous. I am growing on graded pencils, but I think the good old pen will always be my favourite.

"I think if I have to give some tips out, it's not to care what anyone else thinks. This is always being said, but just be yourself. There's no point creating something you are not pleased with, or don't feel comfortable doing. Never lie to yourself, and don't try to be better than you already are. Work to your abilities and your strengths. I do the opposite to that a lot, and it always brings me down. So I am kind of being hypocritical, but if you do something you're not very good at it's going to get better. Keep practising and practising, your efforts will pay off gradually. You will always be improving, no matter how old or young you may be.

"HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF!"

Absolutely incredible artwork and interview, Katie.

I've loved your artwork (especially the darker, more twisted stuff) ever since seeing your Slipknot mask merge. Keep it up!

Awh thanks guys! :)
I do try, hahah. It's great to express yourself, but many people don't seem to.

I think a lot of those who do express themselves tend to do it through Facebook statuses. I much prefer this way haha

I couldn't agree more! It frustrates me when people don't put their emotions to something useful... I suppose it's not everyone's cu of tea. :)

Fantastic, Katie! This is the sort of thing we should really encourage young people to showcase through CLIC - there's a lot of talent out there which can't always be put down in an article.

Wow! Aren't your drawing Manga/Anime? I can tell because of the eyes, also isn't once of your drawings 'Tōshirō Hitsugaya' from Bleach?

And once again amazing!
