Featured Illustrator: Snoo
CLIConline isn't just for writing. In this regular series, we celebrate the visual talents of creative CLICers: paintbrush wielders, eagle-eyed photographers, digital designers and more.
You may be aware of the CLICgallery tab at the top of this page - but did you know you could submit your photos, artwork and designs to it by emailing gallery@cliconline.co.uk? The gallery is also open to all artwork, including as cartoons, paintings, Photoshop creations and drawings.
Our second featured illustrator is Snoo from Young Newport, who explains some of her inspirations and advice for others:
"What I love about drawing is the creativity and freedom it allows. I love showing thoughts and feelings through painting or even just a doodle, because a lot of the time it's easier to draw something than to attempt to explain it.
"I'm aiming to become a professional artist, even though it began as just a hobby. I'd particularly like to go into concept art if I can, because even though it's a long process of trying different ideas until you get what the client wants for a film or game, the art produced is really inspiring to see and I would like my work inspire new artists eventually.
"My favourite thing to draw is a human figure. Whenever I'm not sure what I feel like drawing, I find I can draw a figure with relative ease and make it unique each time. I'd advise anyone who feels uninspired to just draw what's in front of them at that moment. Sitting in a coffee shop and drawing the various people walking by, ordering drinks or sat down is a really fun and quick way to get better. It never has to be particularly good, it's just a rough sketch, but I find it helps a lot.
"My favourite artist has to be Feng Zhu. His digital concept art, which he usually does in just a few hours, is a constant source of inspiration for me and often leaves me speechless. His level of detail that he can incorporate into an image is insane and I really hope I can reach something close to his level of work someday. Though I feel more comfortable using paints and pencils, his work inspires me to reach out of my comfort zone and work with Photoshop and other software digitally.
"Being featured in the CLIConline Gallery is a huge compliment and I'm incredibly grateful for the chance to show my work more. Hopefully it'll inspire others to contribute to the gallery and all the CLIC artists can help each other out more, maybe do some collaboration work too.Thank you CLIC!"
