Enduring Autumn

The magnificent olive days full of good morning fresh mint granita, growing around basil pesto and unforgettable evening limoncelo conversations, are inevitably gone; far away just like the sun that here seems to be simply ludicrous. And it shines through that the holy days of Italian summer have to transform into working and studying ways of dull and dreary existence.

But what I discovered is that the sensual motley I knitted so carefully in my memory doesn't have to disappear like an evanescent bubble. I brought with me the whole delight, freshness and intenseness of Italian air and lifestyle and changed my life 'under the British sky,' starting from the most basic, important and crucial sphere: my kitchen.

I’ve learned that la cucina, with its lightness, has to permeate your day. The food as a source of bewildering experience, the juxtapositions of colour, smell and taste should constitute your day tone. It is in the way you celebrate your time that you make it meaningful. Now, I always find a moment to have a coffee, to stop and chat with my neighbour, to smile more, to sing aloud? just to live in the world.

I recommend all of you get inspired by the pictures in your mind. On such gloomy days just think of your own keys' everyday Felicit?. And I know that in the taste of fresh fruits in my Macedonia, the best memories will last anyway, and the dreams of future journeys will help endure winter bleakness.

Got something to say?
