Earning The Weekend
I have just started my first daunting year at high school.
It feels like a week is a day in this place!
The weeks go on so quickly; I can't believe it has been nine whole weeks already! It is so tiring!
You see, in primary school, you don't get as much homework, and the lessons seem very short and snappy.
Another thing is, in primary, you don't have to go around the school every hour to get to different lessons! It's just in one big airy classroom that you spend your time in - one easy day. But in high school, its up at 7 o'clock, shower, get dressed, make sure you have got all of your books you have packed the night before, and only then you get to have breakfast!
Then it's off to school, packed with monster sixth-formers and barging year 11s! You only just get to lessons on time, and when you do get there, it is a full hour's non-stop work. I feel like a little fly in amongst all of the hornets crowding around me, getting barged out of the way! In primary, you look forward to the weekend, but in high, you've got to earn the weekend!

I remember feeling exactly like this when I started high school. The good news is the older students become less daunting and you will relax into the system of moving classrooms (and even relish the time, walking slowly so you can spend less time being taught). The bad news is the older you get the longer the weeks feel and the shorter the weekends become. Especially when you get to uni and have to teach yourself.. this engulfs your weekends.
But on the bright side summer lasts for 5 months and Christmas and Easter for 1 month each, so it's all swings and roundabouts! :)
