Do Your DofE Through Rugby
Are you excited about the start of the RBS 6 Nations tournament? Have you been inspired to take up rugby as a result?
Did you know you can undertake the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) at your local rugby club in Wales? The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and DofE Wales have set up an exciting partnership in which 14-25 year olds can get involved with their club whilst taking part in the world’s largest youth achievement award, which is recognised by colleges, universities and employers.
The DofE is a progressive programme that encourages 14-25 year olds to participate in activities relevant to skill, volunteering, physical and expedition sections. There are three levels to the DofE; Bronze, Silver and Gold and an additional residential activity needs to be undertaken at the Gold level. You do not have to start at the Bronze level, nor do you have to complete all three levels (although many find that once they get bitten by the DofE bug they want to complete all three!)
If you are already a member of a rugby club, you may fill the criteria for the physical section just by playing but have you ever thought about volunteering at the club to help with the maintenance? Or how about updating the club website or helping to set up a Facebook page for the club? You may have played rugby for a while and are now interested in coaching primary school children how to play during your spare time. All of these activities are easy to undertake at all rugby clubs across Wales and count towards your DofE!
