  • Pride Cymru

In anticipation of Wales' most colourful celebration of diversity, Pride Cymru needs two ambassadors aged 14-25. The LGBT Young Persons Champions will be advocates for gender and sexual minorities in Wales. These two people will work with charities, companies and community groups to further publicise young LGBT people's need for safety, fairness and respect.

To qualify:

You must be a person aged 14-25, with a passion for LGBT issues and 'an enthusiasm for getting things done'. While the roles will run from August 2015 to July 2016, your duties will be very flexible, allowing for major commitments like school or work.

Perks:

  •  Training and development including training from Youth Cymru,
  •  Valuable work experience with full references given,
  •  Develop key skills in marketing, public speaking, public policy and campaigns,
  •  Deliver an opening address at the 2015 Pride Cymru event,
  •  Deliver the keynote speech at our Youth Conference in the Autumn of 2015,
  •  Attend a range of events and participate in key projects with Pride Cymru,
  •  Receive support from Youth Cymru to apply for funding to develop projects and events,
  •  Play an active part on Youth Cymru's Llais Ifanc youth forum,
  •  Place on the Iris Prize 2015 Youth Jury,
  •  At the end of the year the Champions will have qualified for the Millennium Volunteers 100 hours of volunteering award.

The position is a voluntary, unpaid one, but you will be reimbursed for travel and other pre-discussed out-of-pocket expenses.

To apply:

Fill the nomination form and email it to hello@pridecymru.com by Friday 17th July 2015. There's space for a short essay of 250 words or less, in which you're expected to talk about yourself and why you'd like to join the campaign for LGBT rights. You may also mention the skills and qualifications you have gained from previous endeavours, be they other voluntary roles or school activities.
The two Champions will be announced on 15th August 2015 at Pride Cymru.

Pride Cymru is a registered charity working to improve the quality of lives for LGBT people in Wales. They organise Wales' largest annual celebration of equality and diversity, this year taking place on 15th August in Cardiff. The annual event is complemented by a wider range of events, initiatives and campaigns throughout the year to combat hate crime and to promote diversity - leading to safer communities in which we all live, work and play.
